May 2006

America is slowly waking up, as I pointed out at the Hoosier Roots Project blog, and the recent poll by Zogby International reveals that less than half of the American public trusts the official 9/11 story or believes the attacks were adequately investigated.

The poll is the first scientific survey of Americans' belief in a 9/11 cover up or the need to investigate possible US government complicity, and was commissioned to inform deliberations at the June 2-4 "9/11: Revealing the Truth, Reclaiming Our Future" conference in Chicago. Poll results indicate 42% believe there has indeed been a cover up (with 10% unsure) and 45% think "Congress or an International Tribunal should re-investigate the attacks, including whether any US government officials consciously allowed or helped facilitate their success" (with 8% unsure). The poll of American residents was conducted from Friday, May 12 through Tuesday, May 16, 2004. Overall results have a margin of sampling error of +/- 2.9. All inquiries about questions, responses and demographics should be directed to Zogby International.

The media has never commissioned a major polling organization to ask these questions before.  That it took the pooling of resources from via the 9/11Truth.org site and others in the 9/11 Truth movement is a testament to the rise of the independent media and is another expression of new found people power emanating from the blogosphere.

According to Janice Matthews, executive director of 911truth.org, "To those who have followed the mounting evidence for US government involvement in 9/11, these results are both heartening and frankly quite amazing, given the mainstream media's ongoing refusal to cover the most critical questions of that day. Our August 2004 Zogby poll of New Yorkers showed nearly half believe certain US officials 'consciously' allowed the attacks to happen and 66% want a fresh investigation, but these were people closest to the tragedy and most familiar with facts refuting the official account. This revelation that so many millions nationwide now also recognize a 9/11 cover up and the need for a new inquiry should be a wake up call for all 2006 political candidates hoping to turn this country around. We think it also indicates Americans are awakening to the larger pattern of deceit that led us into Constitutional twilight and endless war, and that our independent media may have finally come of age."

Poll co-author, W. David Kubiak concurs, saying: "Despite years of relentless media promotion, whitewash and 9/11 Commission propaganda, the official 9/11 story still can't even muster 50% popular support. Since this myth has been the administration's primary source of political and war-making power, this level of distrust has revolutionary implications for everyone working for peace, justice and civil liberties. If we ever hope to reclaim this country, end aggression and restore international respect, we all must finally scrutinize that day when things started to go so terribly wrong. The media and movement leaders ignore this call at their peril, because tens of millions are clearly telling us here they are ready for 9/11 truth."

It warms my cynical heart to see these sort of truths being acknowledged but this also serves to exacerbate the situation.  As people power comes down on those who have operated in the shadows for so long, they will become desperate.  When that happens, who knows what they are capable of when pretenses such as 9/11 are no longer necessary?  As a good friend of mine said once to that very question, Wir Sind Gefickt.

Karl Rove and his people have been trying to play down persistent rumors of his impending frog march all week, but intrepid former NSA spook-turned-journalist Wayne Madsen sprays some gasoline on this particular fire that has already singed Truthout's Jason Leopold.

One of my favorite Blogistonians is the hilarious Billmon from Whiskey Bar. In a post entitled Fools and Liars Billmon succintly states:

I realize that at this point I’m kind of beating a dead horse — or a dying administration’s dead crediblity, as the case may be. But I think it’s important to keep wailing away, particularly since Big Media seems perfectly content to let them do it again.

On one count, though — whether Shrub knew at the time that his babbling lies about the Flaming Winnebagos of Death were, in fact, lies — I actually tend to believe the White House spin. I don’t think he had a single clue one way or the other…

I couldn’t have said it any better than that myself. The level of incompetence in DC all around is staggering. Then again when you consider the backgrounds of most of the members of Congress and their staff, the law firms and lobbying outfits, PR flacks and various other pimps, thieves and hustlers operating in our nation’s capitol, it all kinda makes sense.

Professor Peter Alexander was one of the leading scholars of the philosopher John Locke, a major influence in my philosophical life. Prof. Alexander’s seminal book on Locke, Ideas, Qualities and Corpuscles: Locke and Boyle on the External World (1985) is widely regarded as a classic in the field.

This is one of the books that opened up the philosophy of John Locke for me and has always held a special place in my heart for Professor Alexander. His death is a sad occasion in my house and he will be missed greatly.

Uberlobbyist Jack Abramoff has been confirmed to have visited the White House on at least two occasions according to documents provided to JudicialWatch, the government watchdog outfit that filed a Freedom of Information Act request for Secret Service visitor logs.

This is yet another example of the Cheney Administration sticking its grubby paws in every corruption cookie jar in the former swamp.

Christy Hardin Smith at Firedoglake asks the question "are the Republicans' election efforts Running on Fumes?"  While it is truly the greatest era of Schaedenfreud for those of us in the Reality Based Community since the Berlin Wall fell down with all the trouble the Cheney Administration is experiencing, I find it difficult to get excited about this year's $election.

I love reading political blogs and keeping up on the latest news from the Cold Civil War but once you realize that the pimps, hustlers, thieves and various other criminals are in control of the US Government your cynicism level rises up and slays the partisan activist within your soul to prevent further corruption of itself.

There will not be any political campaign endorsements, recommendations or pleas for donations to any candidate for public office on this blog.  I will feel free to complain about the entire lot of candidates however, because I feel those previously mentioned pimps, thieves, etc. have stolen this country and should be shamed in public.

And voting for the lesser of two (or three with Libertarians on the ballot) evils is still voting for evil.  If you must give money to a lost cause like a candidate for office, why not instead donate that money to a food pantry or something  that will actually benefit someone needy.

I'd like to introduce you all to some friends I know. I hang with interesting people mostly and the stories at Eatin' Cheese In Hell are…very interesting. NSFW (Not safe for work) or with kids in the room.

Welcome to the End of the End blog and thanks for dropping by. I’ve been meaning to start a personal views blog for some time now, but until now have not had the opportunity to do so. I have been involved in the administration of some blogs for some previous clients and also ran a blog or two for my company Layman Media which I recently folded due to health issues.

I intend to use this blog as a means to express my views on current events and culture. I have interests in philosophy, art, film and music, spirituality vs. theology, ancient cultures and history. I promise to keep the conversation interesting here, but I can’t promise slavish posting schedules or even regular commentary unless I have a real interest and my health is holding up. I hope to see you around and thanks again for dropping by.
